Geno Jones Obituary
TUPELO – The family is grateful for the promise in the Scriptures, which reminds us that "our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." (Romans 8:18)
Geno Marallice Jones was born August 2, 1963, to the late Kerthalia Lee Jones Pierce and Claude Ernest Jones in Tupelo, Mississippi. Geno relinquished this life on December 28, 2024. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Poplar Springs CME Church, Shannon, MS. Geno graduated from Tupelo High School in 1981. After graduation, he studied music and art at Northeast Mississippi Community College and Mississippi State University. Geno was a Special Education professional within the Tupelo Public School District for more than twenty years until his recent retirement. Because of his love for assisting those with special needs, he was a care provider to those who became extended family to him.
He was a musical aficionado. His affinity for the piano led him to begin playing at Snowtown Missionary Baptist Church at the age of five. He later supported musical programs at Union Baptist MB Church and has served as the minister of music at Poplar Springs CME and was the Choruser for the Aberdeen-Tupelo Fourth Episcopal District until his final amen. Through the years he taught private lessons, lead various choirs, and supported a host of community and district church musical programs.
To cherish his memories, he leaves behind three sisters: Vickie Jones Dancer (Paul) of Tupelo, MS, Stephanie Jones Bennett of Aiken, SC, and Kimberly Kerthalia Pierce (Terri) of Orlando, FL; nieces and nephews: Keileigh Bennett, Paula Dancer, Paul Michael Dancer, and Payton Dancer; a grandnephew, Corbyn Martin; and an infinite number of chosen family.
Geno has left an indelible mark on this world that will never be replicated. May his memory forever bring a smile and a song to all those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM Friday, January 3, 2025, at Poplar Springs CME Church in Shannon with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4PM-7PM on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo, which is honored to be serving the family.
