Darlene Woods Johnson, the beloved daughter of Ira Lee Lipsey and Sara Woods, was born on November 23, 1956, in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. She peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
From an early age, Darlene confessed her faith in Christ and became a devoted member of Wesley Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Houston, Mississippi. She served faithfully as both an usher and secretary, embodying her dedication to her faith and community. She later became a member of Norton Springs CME Church where Reverend Craig Harper served as her pastor.
In 1992, Darlene married the love of her life, Bobby Joe Johnson. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Brandie Johnson, who was the joy of her life.
Darlene graduated from Houston High School in 1975 and pursued higher education at Itawamba Community College. She later earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Mississippi State University. Continuing her educational journey, she attended Gibson's Barber and Beauty School in West Point, Mississippi, becoming a licensed cosmetologist. Darlene dedicated over 20 years to Oxford Healthcare in Tupelo, Mississippi, where she worked as a Supervisor until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sara Woods; her father, Ira Lee Lipsey; her sister, Dubbie Lipsey of Austin, Texas, her brother, Joe Ira Lipsey of Springfield, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Darlene leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Bobby Joe Johnson; her loving daughter, Brandie Johnson; her cherished granddaughter, Kahliyssa Dunlap of Houston, Mississippi; two sisters, Yolanda Clarett (Eundra) of Saltillo, Mississippi, and Dellcine Brown of Okolona, Mississippi; her niece, Paige Baker of Waco, Texas; her cousin, Erie D. Oakley of Racine, Wisconsin; as well as a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Darlene's life was a testament to faith, love, and service. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
