Yolanda Cipriano
"Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt"
Yolanda Cipriano, 91, longtime resident of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday February 6, 2025 after a brief illness.
Yolanda was born Iolanda Calo in Frigento, Avellino (Italy) on March 10, 1933. She was one of five children of the late Michele Calo and Angela Davino. She went to work on her family farm at the age of 8 years old, after two years of schooling.
On December 29, 1957, she married her husband, Giovanni Cipriano. Together they were married for 28 years until his death on July 21, 1986. Giovanni was the love of her life and she mourned his loss for the nearly 40 years they were apart. Yolanda looked forward to being reunited with her husband Giovanni in Heaven, and those that love her take solace in knowing that they are together once again.
Yolanda and Giovanni came to the United States on October 9, 1968, bringing with them their children Mark, Grace, and Rocchina. They settled in Waterbury, Connecticut, where they built a life for themselves and welcomed another son Michael.
She started her career as a seamstress at Waterbury Garment in 1975, where she worked for 25 years until her retirement in 2000. After retirement, she spent time sewing and crocheting, tending to her garden, and caring for her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was also a renowned cook, whose incredible recipes will be passed down for generations to come. She prayed regularly for her family and had particular devotions to St. Gerardo Majella, St. Padre Pio, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
Yolanda is survived by her four children: Mark Cipriano and his partner Mairee (Southbury), Grace Farisello and her late husband Angelo (Watertown), Rocchina Burns and her husband Louis Adam (Southbury), and Michael Cipriano and his wife Lynn (Watertown); Joanne Battaglia, whom she loved as a daughter, and her husband Vincent; nine grandchildren: John Cipriano, Nicholas Cipriano (Olivia), Vincent Farisello (Heather), Melissa Marcelo (Marco), Jonathan Farisello (Sara), Adam Burns (Heidi), Andrew Burns, Rachel Pagliarulo (Nicholas), Matthew Cipriano; Juliana Battaglia, whom she loved as a grandchild; and eight great-grandchildren: Luke Farisello, Christopher Farisello, Julia Farisello, Mason Marcelo, Angelina Farisello, Jonathan Farisello, Rocco Burns, and Rocco's baby brother, due to be born in February.
She is further survived by her brother Rocco Calo (Rosa) of Waterbury, Gerardo Calo (Nina) of Frigento, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Maria Calo, Carmella Genua, and her son-in-law Angelo Farisello whom she loved as a son.
Yolanda will be fondly remembered for her joy and love by numerous other family members around the country and the world. She was a woman of great intelligence and wisdom. Anyone who had the honor of knowing her mourns her loss greatly.
