Michelle Generous Obituary
Michelle Elizabeth Generous, 58, of Washington, DC passed away on January 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Friends and family surrounded her throughout her valiant fight and during her final days. Michelle was born on June 22, 1966 in Honolulu, HI to the late Tom and Diane Generous. She grew up in Wallingford, CT and spoke fondly of her days at Moses Y. Beach and Robert Earley. She graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall in 1984 and Dickinson College in 1988 with a degree in English.
After launching her marketing and communications career at Little, Brown and Company, she transitioned to financial services at John W. Henry & Co., Inc. and Bear Stearns, before joining ProShare Advisors, LLC in 2011, where she became Vice President for Marketing Planning.
Michelle was a true patron of the arts, loving visual arts, the theater, and music. She had a fantastic book collection and an even more impressive music catalogue. Her home was an expression of all the bright colors and life she appreciated - full of paintings, Fiesta tableware, inspirational photography, and her extensive British Royals collection. She supported all types of live performance – Broadway and the Public Theater in New York, and the Capital One Arena and Warner Theater in Washington, DC. She possessed a sharp, dry wit known to make everyone laugh.
Michelle was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and colleague to all who were welcomed into her life. She is survived by her sister and brother-in law Suzanne and Michael Prentice of Wallingford, CT and their children MaryJane and Thomas, aunts Donna Dufault and Nancy McMillan and Pamela Zappardino (Charles Collyer), her extended family, including cousins Jodi Hayes (Scott), Lauren Morawski, Rebecca Roberts (Jamie Fisher), and her beloved cat Clementine.
A Celebration of Michelle is planned for March in Wallingford, CT, with another gathering to follow in Washington, DC in early May 2025.
