Douglas Moffat Obituary

It is difficult to sum up the biography of a man like Doug Moffat "The Man, the Myth, the Legend," in just a few short paragraphs, but here goes nothing Douglas K. Moffat of Beacon Falls was a man of many nicknames: Bookie-Bookie, the Mouse, the Crow, Doug, Dougie, Doug E Fresh, Dougie McBuckets, the Mento Man, Mr. Moffat Fix-it, Wilson, Muff, Bubs and his most recent title-Lord Douglas K. Moffat (he has the certificate to prove it) On the very sad day of February 5, 2025, after a brief and valiant battle with cancer, Doug passed away peacefully while surrounded in the love of his family, just a few weeks shy of his 79th birthday. Doug was born February 20, 1946, the sixth child of the late George and Isabel (Dodds) Moffat. Doug leaves behind his beloved wife Beth "Betsy", his treasured children: Erin K. Moffat, James Moffat and his daughter-in law Danielle Volante Moffat, Jonathan Moffat and Jeffrey Moffat. He was Poppy to his cherished grandchildren Hannah and Cody Moffat. He also leaves his older sisters Mary "Mimi" Fusco and Roberta "Bobbi" Snyder, his mother-in-law, Beverly Krenesky, brother-in-law Michael Krenesky (Joyce), and his sisters-in-law Karen Muni (Tony), June Rydzik (Rick), Angelina Moffat and Patricia Parker as well as his nieces and nephews: the Moffat, Russell, Snyder, Fusco, LeBlanc, Rydzik, Krenesky and Muni families, and several grand nieces and nephews. He also leaves many friends who were as close as family. He was predeceased by his older brothers George "Red" Moffat, John "Jack" Moffat (the late Judy), Ronald 'Butch" Moffat, his father-in-law Michael Krenesky, and his brothers-in-law John Fusco, Ross Snyder, Eddie Russell and several adored nieces and nephews. He meant so much to so many people and vice versa. If you were fortunate to meet him, even just once, chances are you have a great memory of him. He always made a joke and succeeded to make everyone feel instantly welcome. He remembered everyone he met from the kids in his neighborhood growing up to the teams he coached and guided. Having worked for 35 + years as the Head Custodian at Laurel Ledge Elementary School, his home away from home, he mentored and inspired decades and generations of kids, colleagues and staff. Mr. Moffat and Moo-Moo were the frequently seen duo in the kindergarten wing. To know him was to love him and to love him will be to miss him, even if you knew him your whole life or you just met him on vacation. Mr. Moffat's life was a tapestry of service, joy, kindness and empowerment. His legacy will continue on, his impact evident in generations to come through the Douglas Moffat Basketball League dedicated to him. We encourage you to be like Dougie, be kind, be loving, give back to others and as the 'Unofficial' Moffat Family Crest states "Never miss an opportunity for a joke." Family and friends are invited to gather Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 5-7pm at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd., Prospect, CT 06712. A Memorial Service will follow at 7pm. Burial will be private. My earliest childhood memories are filled with time spent learning valuable life lessons from Doug and Betsy.
The Crow was more than a baseball or basketball coach to so many of us, he was someone that always had time for you, always cared about you, and always had a smile.

Dear Moffat Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Moffat will always be in my childhood memories growing up in Beacon Falls. He was that friendly face we would always see at school. Basketball Sunday´s at Laurel Ledge were some of the best times and he was always there. He was a great man. I wish all of you my deepest condolences.
