David Ransom Obituary

David Lewis Ransom, 77, of Granby and formerly of East Hartland, East Granby & Suffield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Hebrew Home. David was born on March 25, 1948, the son of the late Leonard (Tex) and Shirley (Hayes) Ransom. David leaves his children, Lisa Wentworth (Daniel) and Joshua Ransom, and his grandchildren, Tyler Wentworth and Hailey Wentworth. He also leaves his sister Donna Ryder (Lee) and brothers Gary Ransom (Dawnalyn) and Tom Ransom (Laurie). David was predeceased by his brother Earl Ransom. David attended Hartland Elementary School from grades 1-8 and graduated from Gilbert High School in Winsted. David served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971, stationed first at Fort Lewis in Washington. It was there that he met his wife Janine. They were married for 34 years and remained close until his death. David served in Vietnam and was proud to serve his country. When he was able, he marched with fellow veterans in the Memorial Day parade. Early in his career, David worked for his father as a carpenter which began a lifetime of working with wood, building furniture and restoring antiques. For most of his career, David was an auto mechanic working at various locations throughout the Farmington Valley. He was the Maintenance Supervisor at Westminster School in Simsbury for many years. When the school began their program to honor staff members, David was the first recipient of that award. David enjoyed collecting all kinds of antiques, especially oil lamps/lanterns, flashlights and pocketknives. He enjoyed restoring furniture and working on his historic homes. David also enjoyed classic cars & owned many of them over the years. David's family & friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 4-7PM at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby, CT 06035. A memorial service with Military Honors will follow at 7PM at Carmon's. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. David's name hasn't been on our Meals on Wheels delivery list for a while so when I saw the apartment door open during my recent MOW delivery day I knocked on the door and had the pleasure of meeting his former wife Janine. We chatted about David and I relayed how he was the highlight of our deliveries, always charming and full of stories about his life and his family. The extent of his knowledge about antiques and fixing everything from oil lanterns to furniture was legendary. He never stopped coming up with new ideas for repurposing objects that kept his apartment interesting and lively. Godspeed, David, you will be missed.

I delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. Mr Ransom was always cheerful, up-beat, and full of interesting stories. I always looked forward to my deliveries to him. Sorry for your loss.
