I know Joan through her partner Cynthia, a very good friend who went to high school with my parents. I am honored to have known her. Joan was a kind and intelligent woman who was very supportive to me during a difficult time, and I will always remember that. May her memory be a blessing. Best wishes to all of Joan's loved ones. Rest in peace.

I was a new Assistant Principal in 1971 assigned to Wilson High School. One of my duties was to supervise the Foreign Language Department, and of course that included Madame Cunningham. To say she even needed ( any ) supervision is a misnomer. She was kind, energetic, demanding, and inspiring to her students and colleagues. Always positive and upbeat, I can not recall ever having to deal with a disciplinary case from any of her classes. May she rest in peace - Mike Durso

Joan was a Wilson colleague for many years. I remember that lovely smile and the cheerful personality. I think that all who knew her considered her a friend. She was definitely a positive influence at Wilson--and a very fine teacher. She taught both my daughters, whose love of French is due mainly to her influence. Puisse-t-elle reposer en paix.
