Brenda Perkins Obituary

PERKINS, Brenda Faye Kirks, 64, of Mechanicsville, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 7, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Billy" N. Perkins; her parents, Stanley H. Kirks Sr. and Mattie Mae Kirks; her sister, Sharon Miles; and her nephew, Billy Moore. She is survived by her son, Matthew; granddaughter, Kristan; grandson, Asher; brother, Stanley "Slick" H. Kirks Jr. (Bonni); nieces, Marie Willet and Erin Allen; and extended family and friends. Brenda graduated from Freeman High School and studied at Bon Secours School of Practical Nursing. After a career in nursing, she devoted 20 years to addiction recovery and helping others, in partnership with McShin Recovery Resource Foundation. Brenda loved the beach, specifically Topsail Island, N.C., where she enjoyed vacationing with friends and family, and will be missed on future trips. Her final wish of donating her body to medical research was granted, allowing others to learn through her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 15 at 12 p.m. at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Road, Richmond, Va. 23228. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McShin Foundation, 2300 Dumbarton Road, Richmond, Va. 23228.

Brenda was a force in my life! Loved her no nonsense and honest approach, and loved her sense of humor too. I will miss her, but she has made an indelible mark on me that will live on.

Brenda laid a mark on my life upon entering recovery. She was a straight shooter, kind, empathetic and compassionate. You will definitely be missed my friend.

Brenda was so much like her mom, Mattie Kirks. Sometimes outspoken and sometimes trying to get her point across, but always doing it to make a point and a difference. Lots of memories. So glad she used her experiences to make a difference in the lives of others. Something both she and Billy did. Give your mom, your dad, and my dad a hug for me. Condolences to Matthew, Stanley, and other family members.
