Brian Bishop Obituary

BRIAN A. BISHOP

October 26, 1939 to March 23, 2023

Brian was a fourth generation Nevada County resident who was born and recently died in Grass Valley. He attended both Washington and Hennessey elementary schools. He then attended Nevada Union High School and graduated in 1957. He then went on to college studying at Sierra Community College and University of California, Davis, where he earned a degree in Political Science. He went on to finish his studies at the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. It was during this time that he married Carol Souder, who was also born and raised in the Grass Valley area.

After passing the California Bar Exam, he and Carol moved back to Grass Valley. His career began in a local private practice for a short period of time. The remainder of his career was spent in the Nevada County school and county government, where at one point he was County Counsel.

His interests included his Catholic faith, family, traveling, fishing, hunting and all sports. He absolutely loved baseball. He coached baseball for many years, beginning with Little League and then at Nevada Union High School and he thoroughly enjoyed it.

He was a family man and spending time with each member of the family as much as he could. He loved people and made a point to meet as many people as he could along his path and could talk to just about anyone, learning something along the way. He loved dogs and he really enjoyed music. He had a great sense of humor. He was a loving, kind and caring son, husband, father and grandpa.

He was predeceased by his parents Tabe and Alyne, his son Christopher, and his grandson Walker. He is survived by his wife Carol of nearly 60 years and by his daughters Maria and Laura, daughter-in-law Jodanna, his son Matthew and his wife Sarah, his son Gregory and his wife Melissa, grandsons Max, Beau, Sydny and Julian, and his granddaughters Maisy, Charlie and Peyton, and his sister Susan.

Grave site services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.

Brian was my Little League coach for many years. He could keep me calm at bat or on the mound with a kind word and his friendly disarming way. I always felt better afterward. He was one of my favourite coaches. My condolences to the family.

I was raised in Hills Flat not far from the Bishop home. Brian and others a little older than me played baseball in Thraten field next to our house. Brian would always include us younger kids.
A great mentor!
Later I would go on to work as Tabe´s yard boy and then worked many years with his mother at NID.
A great family.
Condolences to the Bishop Family. One heck of a guy!

I remember grandpa Brian driving me to preschool all the time, throughout my life he always treated me with the love of a father. He always got me popsicles after boring classes in elementary school, and I miss him so much. I was looking forward to him seeing me graduate but I find peace knowing he´s resting. My grandpa was the best in the world, he loved baseball and some of my favorite games were with him. I love your grandpa
