Leonard “Skeeter” James Morris, age 92 of Penhook passed away Friday, November 7, 2025 in Richmond.
Born July 11, 1933 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Willie Herman Morris, Sr. and Phyllis McDaniel Morris. He was predeceased by a son, Leonard James Morris, Jr.; and three brothers, Junior Morris, Ronnie Morris and Lawrence Morris.
He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Barbara Shepard Morris; his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Paul Edmunds; two granddaughters, Paige Edmunds and Bobbie Edmunds; sister, Betty Ware; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lenny, Mo, Pop, Grandpa, Candy and Red were among the numerous nicknames he had during his life, but Skeeter seemed to be the one that stuck. He was born and raised in Lynchburg, joined the U.S. Air Force and then returned to Lynchburg where he worked at Scott Insurance for over 30 years. Upon retirement, his golf game became quite good when he moved to Smith Mountain Lake and the Water’s Edge Community. There he was lucky to enjoy many happy years of retirement.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg by Rev. David Adkins.
A celebration of life will be held after the service at Crown’s Ember Restaurant, 6120 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Faison Center for Autism, 5311 Markel Road, Richmond, VA 23230, Centenary Methodist Church, 1501 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24503 or to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the caregivers that were with him in his final days. He will be sorely missed.

Skeeter was an unforgettable man. He and Barbara put me up for a weekend after a difficult event. The two of them told the tale of when Mooch got sprayed by a skunk when Barbara was out of town and Skeeter and a pal tried to wash the cat in a kiddie pool of tomato juice (or bloody mary mix). That laughter and their friendship helped me heal and keep on. I'll look forward to a bourbon with you in heaven...
