Bruce Knight Obituary

Bruce "BK" Knight, 60 of Nashville, TN, formally of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2024, following a brief illness. Bruce was born May 9, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the youngest child of Robert L. and Olivia D. (Osborne) Knight. After graduating from high school, Bruce's passion for music led him to The RecW, formally known as The Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio. There Bruce was able to hone his skills which paved the way to an illustrious 42-year career as a FOH (front of house) Mix Engineer and System Engineer in the music industry. Bruce returned to The RecW numerous times as a guest lecturer over the years to impart his knowledge and experience on those looking to break into the industry. He initially returned home for a short time where he mixed for local bands. His career took off when he began working for DB Sound out of Chicago where he worked for 11 years. Wanting to be his own boss he left DB Sound and began working as a Freelance FOH Mix Engineer where he continued to flourish and expand his talents and allowed Bruce to do what he enjoyed, world travels and working with amazing artists as Sheryl Crow, Bob Seger, The Doobie Brothers, Prince, Aerosmith, The Smashing Pumpkins, Don Henley, and list goes on and on. As a result of his immense talent and unwavering dedication, Bruce received gold and platinum records for his work with various artists over the years. He had a profound impact on the lives he touched throughout his career and the music industry. Always willing to share his experiences, wisdom and passion for music, Bruce did not just make acquaintances, he made lifelong friends. Left to cherish his memory are his father, Robert Knight, siblings Ronald Knight of Cedar Rapids, IA; Karl Knight of Robins, IA; and Cheri (Jeff) Knight of Cedar Rapids, IA. Nephews Shawn (Nichole) Witham, Bobby Knight, and niece Lindy (Andy) Buck along with several great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Olivia Knight, along with maternal and paternal grandparents. A Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be designated to The RecW in hopes of establishing a Bruce A. Knight scholarship fund to inspire and encourage other young people to acquire the skills necessary to enter the music industry. Please direct donations to: The RecW 455 Massieville Rd. Bruce Knight
What an amazing guy. We only knew each other a short period of time. But, he made it feel like a life time. I learned every day from him. I am glad I was able to have him in my life as a True Friend.

I remember, like it was yesterday, when Bruce walked in the door at the Audio Room. He told me he wanted to work with bands and he was told I was the guy to talk to. I told him about the Recording Workshop and off he went. When he returned, I set him up with some names of local bands and encouraged him all the way. Bruce was a "can do" sort of guy. But he always remembered the people he worked around and kept friendship in the forefront no matter how "big" he became. Bruce, Mary and I miss you every day. You were a good friend and we will not forget you. It's hard for us to even believe you are no longer with us. RIP friend!

"BK" was a caring & gifted live music mixer with a kind demeanor.
I don't think anyone saw this coming. I spoke with him just as he was starting the Black Crows project prior to rehearsals. Let's remind ourselves to show love to one another as you just never know when we get called to REST.
RIP "BK". You will be greatly missed.
