Charles Coleman Sr. Obituary

2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Charles Edward Coleman, Sr. had his forever homecoming on February 8, 2024, as he saw Jesus face to face and all the loved ones who went before him. He had a huge servant's heart for his family, church, and community. He loved hunting with his son and grandchildren and growing the biggest garden in town. Mr. Coleman was a native of Liberty, Mississippi, born on June 21, 1934, and spent the last 63 years in Jackson, Louisiana. He was hard-working and passionate about his church, First Baptist Church, Jackson, where he served as a deacon, and serving as mayor of Jackson for 24 years. He also served on the East Feliciana Parish Police Jury for over 20 years, serving as Parish President four terms. He retired from Gulf States Utilities as Northern District Superintendent after 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 62 years, Patricia Walsh Coleman, his parents, W. J. and Nellie Coleman, and two brothers, James Earl Coleman and Jack Bates. He is survived by his wife Karen Perret Coleman, two daughters, Terry Teekel (Alton), and Pam McDavid (Donnie), and son Chuck Coleman (Marie). Also surviving Mr. Coleman are his beloved grandchildren, K. C. Barrett, Tara Barrett Gallagher (Keegan), Maggie Coleman Cook (Jason), Sarah Coleman Burgin (Corey), Caroline Coleman, Cody McDavid (Jocelyn), and Kaylee McDavid Von Kanel (Ryan). Ten great-grandchildren, Ashley Barrett, Lucy Cox, Ainsley Cook, Drew Cook, Ellis Burgin, Charles "Chip" Burgin, Margaux Burgin, Brooke McDavid, Jackson McDavid, and Russ Von Kanel also survive him. Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Jackson, Louisiana, on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon with the funeral to follow at 12 noon. Burial will be at Clay Hill Cemetery north of Liberty, Mississippi. Share sympathies, condolences and memories at www.CharletFuneralHome.com.
