John LeJeune Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley, Louisiana for John Lobert LeJeune, age 73. He died December 24, 2010 at the American Legion Hospital with his loving granddaughter, Katie Christine Core by his side.

Father Gary Schexnayder will officiate at the funeral. Burial will follow at the Estherwood Memorial Cemetery in Estherwood, LA. A rosary will be recited in the French language by his cousin, Stella Carrier, of Church Point, LA on Tuesday, December 28 at 7:00 PM at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, and from 8:00 AM until the time of services on December 29, 2010.

Pallbearers are Brad Core, Cody LeJeune, Henry Guinn, John Core, David Core, and Ted Taylor. Honorary pallbearers include Rufus LeJeune, Roland Breaux, Ray Richard, Cary LeJeune, and Vinton and Lloyd Bellard.

Mr. LeJeune was a native of the Mowata and Richard communities and a long time resident of Crowley. He was born on September 16, 1937, the only child of Curley Joseph and Mary Thibodeaux LeJeune. He graduated from Crowley High School in 1956, and was employed by SLEMCO until his retirement in January of 1988 after 30 years of service.

Mr. LeJeune served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 and was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Mr. LeJeune is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita Mae Myers LeJeune of Crowley; one daughter, Sharon LeJeune Core and her husband, Brad of Crowley; and one son, Pete LeJeune and his wife Vicky of Crowley. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Katie Christine and Jackson Bradford Core and Cody James and Adrian Paige LeJeune, all of Crowley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The LeJeune and Core families would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude for the loving care provided to their husband, father and grandfather to Dr. Mulraj Katira, his staff; Dr. Chad Vincent; the nurses in the ICU unit, and all the nurses and CNA's on the 3rd floor of the American Legion Hospital and Heart of Hospice.

Mr. LeJeune was a loving husband and friend, caring father and grandfather, with a deep Christian faith and a beautiful smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
