"It is with deep sorrow that we announce Gladys Esther Mateo, 79, of Utuado, Puerto Rico peacefully left this earth on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, in Tracy, CA. A Celebration of Life will be held @ 11am Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Fry's Memorial Chapel in Tracy California. Family & Friends are all welcome as we celebrate Gladys on her 80th birthday. Gladys was born on March 25, 1945, oldest daughter of 7 children to Jeronimo & Esther Afanador. Gladys married the love of her life Ramon Mateo on November 25, 1967. So, in love she married him twice! Gladys retired from Oakland Unified School District. Some of her passions were baking, making cheesecakes, cake decorating, crocheting and her love for cooking. Especially when it came to her own authentic Puerto Rican food. You were sure to be greeted with a delicious cup of coffee with every visit. Gladys also loved traveling and collecting cookbooks. Most importantly, Gladys loved her family and friends. Gladys is survived by her 2 children Ramon & Yvette Mateo of Oakland, CA. 6 Grandkids, 6 Great Grandkids, 2 Grand dogs, 3 Brothers, 1 Sister-in-Law, 9 Nieces, 1 Nephew, 34 Great Nieces & Nephews, 16 Great Great Nieces & Nephews, 12 significant others along with extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ramon Mateo of Abonito, Puerto Rico, her parents, 2 sisters Ines Padua & Leida Alvarez, younger brother George Afanador all from Oakland California. Also, her nephew Luis Afanador and Niece Tania Afanador. The family would like to thank Sutter Tracy Hospital, Chaplain Chad and Gladys Doctors.
