George Nizolek Obituary

George R. Nizolek
George Robert Nizolek, a life-long resident of Stamford, celebrated his 93rd birthday on September 28, 2023. He passed peacefully at home on October 15, after a brief illness.
He was born to the late George Charles Nizolek and Lillian Collins Nizolek. He is survived by his children, Nancy and Michael Engler of Stamford and Beth Palmer Nizolek of Bluffton SC, sister, Barbara Rennie, and brother, James Nizolek.
He was very proud of his grandchildren, Tara Engler, David Engler and Michelle Carpanzano, Douglas and Kerri Engler with daughters Everette and Campbell, Megan and Kelly Steckler with daughter Karlyn, Allyson Nizolek, and Kylie and Buck Reynolds with daughter Palmer.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Joan Bird Nizolek, his son, George "Rusty" Nizolek, and his son, Mark Nizolek. Also passing before him were his brothers, Jack Nizolek and William Nizolek.
George graduated from Stamford High School, attended St. John's University, and served in the United States Air Force. He was a talented athlete, best known for his exceptional basketball skills. A 1949 Stamford Advocate article complete with caricatures described him as, "dynamic and at the top of the heap although at full-stretch he measured little better than five feet, eight-and-one half inches tall." A funny quote bubble said, "I'm six-six and I don't score as many as you, George, what's the story?"
He enjoyed golf, horse racing, and rooting against the Yankees. Stamford Little League and Babe Ruth players from the 1960-1970 era will remember him as a fair and animated home plate umpire. His career was in insurance, commercial real estate, and property management. He wanted his obit to read, "He was here, and now he's gone." Yes, he's gone but never forgotten.
Arrangements are being handled by Bosak Funeral Home & Cremation, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford. A celebration of George's life will take place on a future date, and interment will be private.

Rest in peace George. We loved our interactions when we lived beside you. You took such interest in the kids. The more noise they made, the more you loved it. You were a kind soul , the Mullallys

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Please take comfort in the words found at 2nd Thessalonians 2:16,17.

It is with sadness that I am reading that George has passed away. I met and had the pleasure to watch George play basketball in Stamford at the army. He was one hell of a player and a great scorer. He with Tony Martinich were two fine players to watch and play the game. May George now rest in the arms of the Lord. Sincerely, Conrad Kramer

My sincere condolences to the Nizolek family. George was a very special person, his comic relief was awesome, always had the perfect one-liner for any situation. He was a great ump, stern but personal at the same time. He was quite the dapper dresser, always dressed to the T and he was classy and personal. We had tons of great discussions and he always brought the best out of everyone he addressed. He will certainly be missed. Rest in Peace George!!
