Russell COWEN Obituary

Florence - Russell "Russ" Cowen, a beloved father, husband, and former longtime resident of the Spokane Valley, passed away on December 1, 2023. Russ had a long career in both banking and real estate and owned his own business in the Spokane Valley for several years. Russ is survived by his wife, Chris Cowen; and his children, daughters, Jan Christopherson, Joan Cardwell, Jill Holman, and Jennifer Cowen; son, John Cowen; stepdaughter, Sherry Erickson; stepson, Robert Millar; and thirteen grandchildren. Russ was a pillar of his community and a steadfast family man, well-known for his friendly, compassionate, and humorous nature. A dedicated member of Unity Church of Christ and Life Center of Spokane, Russ's commitment to his faith translated into his service to the community. As a volunteer at several organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Food Bank, Jaycees, (Jaycee of the Year award in Helena, Montana in 1963), Kiwanis, Director of Spokane Board of Realtors (2 years), volunteer with Spokane County Juvenile Court "Guardian Al Litem" program, Spokane County Board of Equalization, he spent countless hours helping those in need. His generosity and kindness are a testament to his character and form a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire those who know him. Russ had an immense passion for football, which began in high school when he played on a team that not only never lost but was never scored on. He was an avid fan of the Seattle Seahawks and could quote stats about any player in the NFL. A Celebration of Russ's life will be held on his 90th birthday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Hillspring Church.

For my Mother and all Russ“ children I offer my sincerest condolences. The plan of joining Russ in Arizona to celebrate his birthday was only reorganized to celebrate his life and remember him together on his birthday. I feel honored to have known him.
