James Belcher Obituary

With great sorrow we say good by to Jim Belcher who passed peacefully on September 12. Jim was 87 years old. We are left with our memories and the essence of him, a beloved teacher, coach and community member. We will always know him as one who provided mentoring and motivation for 38 years to generations of students in the Pajaro Valley School district. In his honor, the gymnasium at E.A. Hall bears his name. Jim's organizing of the first Mother's Day run which benefits the Pajaro Valley Shelter Services gave him much pleasure. He continued to fund raise and organize this event for 10 years. After retiring, Jim and Janis moved to Corralitos. His Rancho Corralitos Community will always hold dear, his generosity, kindness and his abundance of work for others.Jim's passion for running and backpacking in his beloved Sierras set an example of a healthy lifestyle for all who were lucky to hear his stories! His positive energy was captivating.Jim leaves Janis his beloved wife of 50 years, his son Michael, 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons, a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kristin. As we remember the depth of his life and the lasting impressions he made, we will hold tight to these memories to lift our hearts. Private services will be held for the family. Any donations may be made to the Pajaro Valley Shelter Services.

Jim you have been on my mind lately through out the past few months of and on. Both you and Janis. I´m so sorry I´m just learning about your passing. I met you back in the 90´s when you would help Janis with picking up furniture on our loading dock. You were always such a nice guy and always had great stories for us in the warehouse. Both you and Janis were a pleasure to see every time you guys came in. May you rest in peace and God speed to you sir.

Jim , I've met many people in my life but on one hand I can count the one's that I really looked up to . Jim was most certainly a man that I would never forget . I ran 5 marathons in one year because I also loved running . Jim and I ran the San Francisco marathon together , he always encouraged me to be positive about life , no matter how hard it was at times . Anybody in the State who ran Knew Jim Belcher ." I will never forget you Jim " .

Dear Janis,
My heart aches for your loss. Jim was such a wonderful man-forever positive, incredibly hard working, and always had a smile for everyone. I can´t thank you and Jim enough for all you did to help me move out of my house and get my new home decorated. You two were a dynamic team. I feel blessed to have known him. Mr. Belcher never allowed me to be unmotivated. He was an every moment inspiration for me as well as others. He believed more about my future accomplishments than I could have ever imagined. That constant inspiration lives on and has just received another confirmation of never being satisfied with status quo. I will never forget you coach. RIP

I had the pleasure and honor to work along side Jim since the first day I started teaching at EAH back in 1977. Along with Hugh Boyes and Esther Avila, Jim mentored and supported me from the first day I walked outside to a PE class of 70 7th and 8th graders. Anyone who was lucky enough to have Mr. Belcher for P.E. Will remember him fondly. I know I will. Candy McCarty

"Coach Jim Belcher have no fear, for your Falcon team is here". I'll never forget Coach Jim Belcher. He was a huge influence on me and my friends at E.A. Hall in the mid 60's. He not only taught us to be skilled athletes, but caring and balanced people. He was firm, but kind and always stuck up for his students. He'll be missed by an enormous community of friends and past students. My heartfelt thoughts go out to his family. Hope to see him on the other side. An outstanding human and coach.

My sincere condolences to the Belcher family. Jim Belcher was my 6th grade teacher at Pájaro Elementary School in the very early sixties. He was a great teacher & coach. He treated all the kids the same; he took interest in the kids, he was fun & a good sport. I remember when his 8th grade boys basketball team dismantled his Volkswagen & put it in the auditorium. If there ever was a teacher that made a difference in a kid´s life, it was Mr. Belcher
He will always have a place in my heart Viki(Espinoza)Yniguez

My deepest and most sincere condolences to the entire Belcher family. Always to be remember by me as "Coach", he was and still is one of the most influential men in my life. As a 7th and 8th grader at E.A. Hall school in the early 70's, I saw him was a legendary figure. He was a physical marvel. He shared his love of the competitive nature sports and fitness, but more importantly guided many of us through those awkward "wonder years". I always felt that his approach was firmly compassionate. Coach was a man to be admired. Into my adulthood I was honored to be considered his friend...Ride in peace Coach Jim Belcher
