Peggy Schmeltekopf Obituary

January 17, 1927 - April 24, 2022

Peggy Jean Robinson Schmeltekopf, age 95, went to be with her heavenly Father on April 24, 2022. She passed away at Legend Oaks Healthcare in Kyle, Texas.

Peggy was born in Gonzales, Texas on January 17, 1927 to parents Theodore Robinson and Marie Cotton Robinson. She graduated from Gonzales High School in 1945. She was proud of her Texas heritage. Great- great grandfather, George Washington Davis participated in the Texas Revolution as a member of the "Old Eighteen" and the famous 'Come and Take It' cannon was buried in his peach orchard to hide it from the Mexican army.

Peggy met Calvin Schmeltekopf on a blind date set up by their friends Dorothy Dubose of Gonzales and Edward Posey of San Marcos. They married on June 1, 1949 and were happily married for 69 years until Calvin's death in 2018. They first lived in Kyle and then moved near Martindale where Peggy worked first as a clerk in the Martindale Post Office and then in1972 was installed as Postmaster.

Peggy was preceded in death by husband Calvin Schmeltekopf; parents, Theodore and Marie Robinson; brothers Thomas Robinson and Fred Robinson; sisters Edna Ruth Robinson and Anne Lee and son Clay Schmeltekopf. She is survived by daughter Diana Jones (Robert) of Cedar Creek; daughter-in-law Diane Schmeltekopf of Kyle; granddaughter Casey Jones of Waring; grandsons Randy Schmeltekopf (Morgen) of Austin and Kyle Jones of Kyle; great-grandson Carter Schmeltekopf of Austin.

Visitation will be held by the family at 1 pm on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Pennington Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, TX.
