Sara Harris Obituary
August 28, 1951 - September 27, 2023
Arroyo Grande, California - We will miss her dearly. We lost our wonderful, beautiful sister and friend way too early. To everyone's surprise Sara passed away September 27 at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, California, after a two-week illness-pneumonia, which revealed her serious COPD condition. Her brother Bill Lange and close friends Charlotte Alexander, Deborah Bayles, and Quincy Fingerote were nearby when she passed. Sara lost her husband King Harris Jr. in June 2022, but was lucky to have strong friendships and brother Art Lange, who were in almost daily communication, and brother Sean Lange who always kept her laughing. Sara said a prayer to her sister Ada Lange McGibben every day. Her beloved dog Tessa kept her busy and active in her friendly neighborhood of Arroyo Grande, California. Sara had a wonderful life, born in San Francisco to parents William Lange Jr. and Elaine McChrystal Lange Knapp, attending St. Pius School, Burke's, Sacred Heart Menlo Park and the University of Arizona. She often hung with the famous, including Merv Griffin, Clint Eastwood, Michael Douglas, Peter Jennings, and even Ronald Reagan, and shared her San Francisco debutante class with Patty Hearst. Sara also lived in Atherton, Pacific Grove and Santa Barbara and had a long, rewarding career with Wells Fargo. She was an avid reader and wonderful speller all her life, and she loved her Giants! She is survived by her brothers; her stepmother Susan Butterfield Lange; nephews Nicolas Lange, William Lange IV, Michael McGibben, Jack Lange and Ryan Lange; and nieces Alexandria Lange and Ava-Marie Lange. I was very saddened to learn of Sara's passing. My heart and deepest sympathy go out to her family and dear friends. Sara was a treasured friend during our high school years and beyond. I could write a book about our coveted friendship and shared memories of sweet, entertaining, and commiserating experiences from hundreds of sleepovers at Spencer Lane and Faxon Ave. Of course, those memories included comical episodic interactions with her siblings: Bill ("Boo"), Art ("Arnie"), tiny Ada, and their Mom ("Muddy"). Other memories with Sara included weekends at her dear father's home on Union St and our HS graduation trip to Oahu. After traveling down different paths in succeeding years, we reconnected for a period of time after my daughter was born and named after my dearest friend from a very important period in my life. Sara was and will always be remembered as a very thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful friend with a great sense of humor.

In celebrating my sister Sara's life, I have arranged for a memorial mass to be conducted by Father Jerome at Saint Raymonds Church Menlo Park on Saturday February 3, 2024 at 11 am.
Uncle Sam Wright will host a Luncheon at the Circus Club following the service for all in attendance .
