JOHN MCCASKEY Obituary

JOHN (JC) MCCASKEY John Charles (JC) McCaskey, aged 85, passed away Tuesday March 4, 2025 after a short bout with cancer at his home in Spring Hill, KS. He was surrounded by his kids and grandkids. JC was born on January 13, 1940 at home on the family farm in Paola, KS to Frank and Erma McCaskey. He graduated from Paola high school in 1957. He served in the Air Naval Reserves for 15 months before receiving a medical discharge. He attended the University of Kansas for 3 semesters before going to work for IBM for 42 years. He married Judith (Judy) Theresa Keenan on March 25, 1967 in Wichita, KS. Together they made their home in Spring Hill, KS where he served on the city council from 1971-1991. He helped Alan and B.J. start a lawn mowing business that continued on for 2 decades. JC enjoyed coaching his daughters in softball, playing various card games with his friends, taking his family on family vacations including yearly snow skiing trips and several cruises with Judy during retirement. On a trip in 2021 he traveled to his 50th state. Alaska, Hawaii, and England were some of his favorite destinations. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed visiting with anyone who stopped by to purchase vegetables from him. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Judy. He is survived by his six kids Stacy (Bernie) Fish of Paola, KS, Alan (Nicki) McCaskey of Paola, KS, B.J. (Amy) McCaskey of Topeka, KS, Brenda (Lance) Roe of Kimberling City, MO, Belinda McCaskey (Darci Hamilton) of Paola, KS, and Mary Larson. Eleven grandchildren Jacob Fish, Tayler, Tanner, and Tayte McCaskey, Jordyn, Carter, and Kaelin McCaskey, Brooke and Jack Kramer, and Ty and Alex Larson. Two great grandchildren and many lifelong friends. Services will take place at Grace Community Church in Spring Hill, KS on Monday March 10, 2025. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm followed by funeral service at 2:00 pm. Celebration and cards at Paola Eagles F.O.E. 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Paola Eagles F.O.E. #2673 or Paola High School Alumni Association.

I always enjoyed visiting with him when I stopped to buy tomatoes during the summer. I will miss seeing him in the garden and the taste of his fresh vegetables!
