Richard Brown Obituary

Richard J. Brown, 86, of Fogelsville, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marilyn M. (Mohr) Brown. Born in Pottstown, PA, September 29, 1937, Richard was the son of the late Anthony Brown, Jr., and Dorothy (Bergeman) Brown. He graduated from Pottstown High School in 1955 and Lehigh University in 1959, with a Chemical Engineering degree. Richard was employed by Tarkett, Inc. in Whitehall for 18 years before retiring in 2000. Prior to that, he worked for Firestone and Occidental Chemical for 23 years. Richard spent his retirement years as a part-time employee at Wegmans and took long walks with his dog, Charlie. He was a member of The Barn in Allentown, former member & past Consistory President of St. John's UCC in Pottstown, former Upper Pottsgrove Township Commissioner, and a past President of the Pottstown Penguins Hockey Club. Survivors: Children; Peggy Brown and her significant other, Brian Raabe, with whom he resided, Eric Brown and his wife, Jill of Collegeville; six grandchildren, Jeremy Brown (spouse Molly Brown), Caitlin Nahrgang (spouse Damian Oswald), Austin Brown, Lauren Nahrgang (spouse Cameron Oswald), Nathan Nahrgang (spouse Anna Nahrgang), and Emily Brown; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kylie, and Easton, with two expected Spring 2024; sister-in-law, Sally Kern; son-in-laws, Paul Nahrgang and Keith Gibson; devoted care-giver, Terry; many nieces and nephews. Richard is predeceased by a daughter, Dr. Elizabeth L. Gibson, M.D., a sister Josephine Gaugler, a beloved dog, Charlie. Services: Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024 at St. John's UCC Church, 1027 Church Street Fogelsville, with Father Michael Renninger officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects from 11:30-1:30 p.m. in the church. Interment will follow the service at the adjacent church cemetery. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements. Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com .
