Garland Miller Obituary

Corky Miller, officially known as Garland Lee Miller, passed away Sept. 30, 2021 at the age of 86 surrounded by family.
Corky was a man of faith, born in Louisville, Ky., on July 26, 1935, to the late Austin and Evelyn Miller and he was married to his high school sweetheart, the late Jacqueline Sellers Miller for 57 years.
Corky leaves behind a memorable legacy through decades of coaching, education, and advocacy. He was named Kentucky's All-State Fullback in 1954 from Southern High School and continued to have a successful football career at the University of Kentucky under Coach Bear Bryant.
He is recognized in the Kentucky Coaches Hall of Fame from Fairdale High School for his leadership in coaching the high school football program.
After retiring from teaching, Corky became a motivational speaker for the American Cancer Society helping to initiate the Coaches versus Cancer campaign in Louisville and establishing the Relay For Life campaign throughout the South.
He continued to support education and served as a substitute teacher until he was 83 years old.
He served as mayor of the city of Fox Chase for many years.
He was an avid golfer and former member of Audubon Country Club.
Corky made an unforgettable impact on hundreds of individuals through genuine friendships, his joyful storytelling, and his unconditional love for family.
He leaves behind his daughters, Karen Patrick (David), Peggy Hinshaw (Damon); grandchildren Lauren Hays (Callen), Jonathan Raymer (Jamie), and Ben Hinshaw; great grandchildren, August Hays, Landon Hays, and Bennett Raymer; niece, Robin Riggs (Raymond); great niece Kelly Hannah (Scott); great great nephew Bodey Hannah and great great niece Laney Hannah; niece Bonnie Streble (Wayne) and Carol Franklin (Mike) and a host of other family and friends with special regards to Cecil Crouch (Marsha) and the Lewis Clark family.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, 123 Winning Colors Drive in Mount Washington. Friends can pay their respects on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 17, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
