Timothy Ashman Obituary

Timothy Edwards Ashman, 57, of Virginia Beach, VA, unexpectedly passed away on April 13th, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Tim was born on September 8th, 1964, to Katharine and Norton Ashman in Norfolk, Virginia. After attending Blue Ridge School, Tim graduated from First Colonial High School in 1982 and he went on to study Economics at Hampden-Sydney College, graduating in 1986.

In 1987, Tim founded the Ashman Manufacturing & Distributing Company in his parent's kitchen with a family recipe and grew an incredibly successful, award-winning business, serving as its President for 35 years. From 1993-1996, Tim served on the Board of Directors for FLAVA, as well as serving as their President from 1995-1997. In 2006, Tim won the Commissioner's Award for his support and contribution to Virginia Agriculture.

Tim was loved dearly by his wife of 17 years, Natalie Anne Ashman, and his six children: Catherine Ashman Hodges (Harrison), 28, Sarah Ashman Dugal (Andrew), 25, William Wool Ashman, 16, Ellis Edwards Ashman, 14, Benjamin Bailey Ashman, 12, and Reese Riddley Ashman, 10. They will treasure their memories together, especially their many trips to D.C., baseball games, mornings fishing on the boat, snuggling during movie nights, crab dinners and barbecues. Anyone who knew Tim knew that he loved his family fiercely.

Growing up, Tim loved to surf and play baseball, which he passed on to his children. As an adult, Tim loved to golf, fish, and travel with his friends and family. He was a dedicated Washington Nationals and Washington Redskins fan. A foodie at heart, Tim's knowledge of food extended beyond his business and into our home, where you could often find him grilling or cooking family recipes. He was proud of his family's history, especially the Wool's many contributions to Virginia.

Tim was predeceased by his mother, Katharine Wool Ashman, his father, Norton Julian Ashman, and his brother, Christopher Craig Ashman, among other relatives. He is survived by his wife, Natalie Anne Ashman, his six children, and his many, many dear friends.

Tim's family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Inc., 2002 Laskin Rd. The funeral will be held at Galilee Church Wednesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at 3928 Pacific Ave. with a burial service immediately following at the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel is handling arrangements. Tim's family welcomes all to a celebration of his life at their home directly following the burial. I am saddened to hear of Tim's passing. He was very passionate about his business and life. My prayers go out to his family. I had just seen him at the Virginia Finest Expo and was excited as we had not crossed paths in a decade. He will be missed.

Tim was a long time food industry friend. We shared lots of fun and hard work at the food shows in Virginia, NYC and San Francisco. His company co-packed items for my former business Blue Crab Bay for several years. He was always smiling and loved his family and friends.

When Tim was starting the sauce business, i had the pleasure of working with him in the grocery stores giving out tastings of the few sauces he had at that time. He was so passionate about how you approach people and he drove hard. He was a natural born salesman, an icon of the foodie industry, really. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace knowing he produced beautiful wonderful children.
