RICHARD LIPSHIN Obituary

Lipshin, Richard "Rich"

Onawa, Iowa

Richard "Rich" M. Lipshin, 70, of Onawa, Iowa formerly of Corona, California died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Rose Vista Home in Woodbine, Iowa.

A celebration of Rich's life will be held from 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM on his birthday, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 with military honors at the Zion Lutheran Church 222 N East Street Anaheim, California 92806.

Richard was born May 25, 1945 in Los Angeles, California the son of Jack and Betty (Porter) Lipshin. He grew up in Anaheim, and graduated from Costa Mesa High School. He attended college and then served in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps from January 27, 1966 until his honorable discharge on February 13, 1970. He always liked to say, "We were winning when I left."

Rich and Kathy Budd were united in marriage on January 15, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two daughters were born to this union, Robin and Alicia.

On March 1, 1984 Rich started his own security system business called Marathon Security which he operated for over 31 years. He also enjoyed driving semi cross country with his daughter Robin while maintaining his security business.

Rich enjoyed talking politics and was a Civil War buff who took his family on many vacations to visit Civil War battlefields. Rich loved collecting old cars and was very knowledgeable about them. Rich also loved listening to all kinds of music. He especially loved his dogs, Odie, Sammie, Ben, and Jerrie. Rich has crossed the rainbow bridge and is now having a joyous reunion with his pets, never to be parted again. Rich had a great sense of humor and a joking manner who never met a stranger. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy Lipshin of Onawa, Iowa; two daughters, Robin Lipshin of Onawa, Iowa and Alicia Lipshin from Onawa, Iowa (currently serving with the United States Navy stationed in Norfolk, Virginia); one grandson, Ricky Rebman of Onawa, Iowa; two sisters, Maureen and Margaret; two brothers, Jack and Jay; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Betty (Porter) Lipshin; and one brother, Nathan Lipshin.

He always made me laugh. He always cared for others. He was my definition of a good guy.

Dear Kath and family (Maureen):

So sorry to hear about another friend and classmate heading to Rainbow Bridge.

Rich, this is for you:

Here's to health and to you and our Corps, which we are proud to serve; in major strife we've fought for life and never lost our nerve. If the Army and Navy ever look on Heaven's scenes, they will find the streets guarded by United States Marines.
