Joseph Anthony Hornick, age 86, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Carol J. Hornick (nee Murphy); children: Michelle Hornick, Keith (Priya) Hornick, Christine (Michael) McNeil; grandchildren: Ashley Hall, Megan Hayworth, Michael McNeil Jr., Michael Franklin Jr., Madison Franklin, Melissa Franklin, Sonali Hornick, and Lukesh Hornick; great-grandchildren: Justin, Raelyn, Zane, Jensen, and Vivienne; and brother-in-law, Steve Trpezanovich.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Mary Hornick (nee Koneval); daughter, Monica Franklin (nee Schulte); brother, Frank Hornick; and sister, Maryann Trpezanovich (nee Hornick).
Joseph was a graduate of Holy Trinity Elementary School and Bishop Noll High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. Joseph then worked as an electrician at USS for over 30 years and also served as a Gary Fireman for 20 years.
He was an active member of the American Legion, Slovak Club, and the Sportsman Club. He was also a member of the Retired Police and Firefighters Association.
Joseph was a life long fan of the Chicago CUBs! Joseph enjoyed coaching in the Junedale Little League and also played softball in retirement. His team went on to win the Senior Softball USA World Championship in 2005.
Joseph will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 801 W 73rd Ave, Merrillville, IN 46410.
Entombment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
