Alice Ort Obituary

Alice Caroline Ort
Born: February 17, 1939 in Chicago, IL
Died: November 11, 2023 in McHenry, IL
Alice Caroline Ort, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, in McHenry, IL. Born on February 17, 1939, in Chicago, IL, Alice lived a life defined by kindness, intelligence, and a passionate love for her family and friends.
Alice's life was marked by her dedication to service and care for others. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and spent over 40 years of her life as a Registered Nurse. Her commitment to the well-being of others extended into her personal life. After decades of service at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, she became a Stephens Minister, providing spiritual visits to members at home. Her empathetic nature and genuine care for people was a beacon of light for many.
Alice had a zest for life that was contagious. She was an avid gardener who found joy in the simple pleasures of nature. Her love for cooking and baking brought her family and friends together around the table, creating a lifetime of cherished memories. Her culinary skills were only surpassed by the love she put into every dish she made. She often shared these special skills with her wonderful neighbors in Ringwood, her home for almost 50 years. Those cherished neighbors were life-long friends.
Alice was also an adventurer at heart. She traveled to Sweden many times, exploring her heritage and forming deep connections with her aunts, uncles and cousins there. In her retirement, Alice's favorite place to be was on the sidelines of her grandchildren's sporting events. She was their biggest cheerleader, always present and always proud.
Family was the cornerstone of Alice's life. She is survived by her daughter, Kristin (Daniel Francis) Ort, and twin daughters, Karin (Scott) Sevcik, and Kathy Ort. She was a devoted grandmother to Annika Sevcik and twins, Sawyer and Ava Sevcik. Alice's family was her greatest joy, and she was the heart of their home.
Alice was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Ort, DDS, who sadly passed away on April 25, 2003. Their love story was one of deep respect, mutual support, and endless love, setting a beautiful example for their children and grandchildren.
In every aspect of her life, Alice demonstrated a gentle strength and an unwavering kindness that touched everyone she met. She was a woman of great intelligence, using her knowledge and wisdom to guide her family and assist her patients. Her passionate spirit was evident in everything she did, from her professional career to her personal interests.
Alice Caroline Ort will be remembered for her warm smile, her nurturing spirit, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Services will be private. For those looking to honor Alice, a donation would be appreciated to one of her favorite charities: The Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind (www.chicagolighthouse.org) or The Salvation Army.

Dear Kristin, Kathy and Karin with families,

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Alice, your beloved mother and an incredible soul who had such a profound impact on my life during my time in Utah. Alice's presence provided me with a motherly figure and her warm heart made me feel like a son in her family. She created a home away from home. I will forever cherish the memories of her kindness and the love she shared.

Alice's legacy will endure through the lives she touched, including mine. I am forever grateful to have experienced her motherly love and guidance. As you navigate your grief, remember that her spirit lives on within you, guiding and protecting you from afar.

May Alice rest in eternal peace, knowing the deep impact she had on all those she loved and cared for.

With heartfelt condolences,
Henrik Engström with family.
