I miss this man so, so very much!!!! I trusted EVERYTHING he said to me!!! He was completely amazing and, found every single answer to any GI or, liver problems had. For instance, one time I remember he called a doctor in California right there in the room with me to find a solution & treatment to a serious problem I had, which btw was completely resolved W/O surgery! On top of that, when I was only 32 he also saved my LIFE & relieved chronic excruciating pain when tons of ER doctors & other specialists everywhere else could care less. I mention him still to this day to all of my doctors! He had so much compassion & knowledge for his patients!!! They don’t make doctors like him anymore! I also saw one of his fellow GI doctors & friends at the time too who was compassionate & amazing...who is retired now & will remain nameless out of respect & privacy.
I gladly thank my Mother who had actually all these amazing doctors as patients and, funny still at least one of them is still in practice. They we’re all great friends too. I will never forget the last thing Dr. Balart told me at my last appointment with him... he hugged me and, said, “You’re Special, you know why, I smiled, giggled & said why? He said, because I’m not doing GI anymore but, I still am for you”! I was floored and thanked him so much and. hugged him once again! I’m only 41 and, saw him for 20+ years but, my Mother knew him longer. We still say, what am I going to do W/O Dr. Balart now? or, We miss Dr. Balart so much!!! I could go on & on about this “Saint” of a man. I thank God, so much for the time I did have him as my Doctor and, as a Super Caring friend! I always pray for his wife, his children & grandchildren that he loved with all his heart!❤❤❤

I was at my doctor's appointment today and I mentioned to my doctor that 10 years ago Dr. Balart had performed my colonoscopy procedure. During that time Dr. Balart told me to get my next colonoscopy procedure when I turned 60 years old. He told me that he will provide me with another doctor's name and number to setup an appointment. Me not knowing that Dr. Balart had passed away, I asked my doctor if Dr. Balart had retired. I was totally shocked and dismayed to hear that he was no longer with us.
For years Dr. Balart treated me for Hepatitis C until finally I was cured. When I was first diagnosed with Hep C, Dr. Balart encouraged me so much to keep striving and don't give up. He even called to check on me when I was daily self injecting the medication. After Hurricane Katrina, I didn't take the injection. On my 1st visit in 2006, Dr. Balart scolded me for not getting intouch with his office. I didn't get upset because he made me understand the importance of being consistent while taking the medication. Dr. Balart was truly a doctor who cares about his patients and finding a cure to help the sick.
My prayers are with his family, friends and patients.

Dr. Luis A Balart was referred to me in later 1990s. He was the best physician I ever met and he had treated me so professionally. I enjoyed every visit to his clinic. I just learnt the sad news when I called his clinic for another follow up visit. I could not believe that Dr. Balart had left us earlier this year. Dr. Balart was indeed a knowledgeable physician who cared about the patients. He really took a good care of me. I feel so sad and will miss him now and then for the rest of my life. My heartful condolences to his wife, children, and grandchildren.

I received a letter today from Tulane Medical advising of Dr Balart's death. I am so sad to hear this news. He has been my doctor for many years. I can honestly say he was be best doctor I have ever had. He would personally phone me even if it was after hours to give me results of tests because he cared. He was a friend and the most kindest, compassionate, considerate, funny and sweetest man I have every known. My heart goes out to Mrs. Balart and his entire family. May he rest in peace.

With great pain I came to know about his death, I thanks to Kindelan for his posting. Very sad to see him go, one that like his father, always had a way of making us laugh and share, one that made all of us proud of knowing him and his accomplishments, a true Tiger. Dr. Balart was ever kind, approachable and genuine. I was blessed to meet him and his family as a child. He was a constant and warm presence each time I had the pleasure of being around him: He even influenced my decision on where to attend college and graduate school. I remember receiving a Boston bear from him on a trip with The American College of Gastroenterology as a child and I have now passed that special bear to my kids. To Muffin and family, may your grief be lightened by your sweet memories. Sending a hug and also prayers for peace, Lauren Chobanian Madigan

My dad contracted Hepititis C before I was born. He got his wisdom teeth removed when he entered the U.S army, something went wrong, and he needed a blood transfusion. He contracted the disease from tainted blood. When I was 6 years old his liver disease had progressed to the point where he needed a transplant. After nearly a year of waiting, he got one. I sometimes still have dreams where I am waiting for him to come home. Sometimes I dream that he never did.Years and years later, his hepatitis C was cured with experimental treatments. I have Dr. Luis Antonio Balart to thank for the fact that I got to keep my father throughout my entire childhood. In October of this year, my disease free dad will walk me down the aisle at my wedding.I am so grateful that Dr. Balart dedicated his life, energy, and mind to making the world a better place. Without a doubt, he changed my life for the better.
