Faye Boen Obituary
Faye Jean Boen, 94, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, at her daughter's home in Western Grove, after a long and blessed life. Her daughter and granddaughter were by her side as she entered into eternal rest.
She was born December 9, 1930, in Keefton, Oklahoma, to Joseph Glen and Dorothy Mae Smith Sellars. Faye Jean was a lifelong hard worker, always dedicated to providing for the needs of her family. She attended Muskogee Central High School until the middle of her 10th-grade year, when she begged her mother to let her leave school and take a job at the pharmacy to help support the family.
Throughout her life, she worked in various roles, including many years at Douglas Aircraft in the mailroom, and later as a mail carrier for the Checotah Post Office. She married the love of her life, Oren W. Boen Jr., in January of 1970 in Muskogee. They shared 38 wonderful years together until his passing in 2008.
Faye Jean was a gifted artist who painted many beautiful pictures. She had a love for antiques and enjoyed working in her flower beds, often sharing plant cuttings with family and friends. One of her greatest joys was growing up alongside her cousin and best friend, Jennie Morgan. The two remained inseparable through the years, often talking on the phone morning, noon, night-and sometimes even more.
Affectionately known as "Grandma" to many, she will be remembered as soft-spoken, sweet but strong, and generous with her affection and "I love you's." She was the one who always remembered your birthday with a handwritten card and a little cash tucked inside. Her wit and humor remained with her through the years, often quipping, "Are you sure I'm 94? I just can't believe I'm that old!"
Grandma was an adoptive mother to many-welcoming those who had no place to go and making them feel like family without hesitation. Her strong faith was evident in her life, and her nightly prayer remained: "Dear Lord, if I die before I wake, I pray my soul You'll take." She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oren Boen Jr.; the father of her children, Charles Rogers; her son, Timothy L. Rogers; her sister, Betty Lamb; a stepson, John Boen; stepdaughter, Carol Hoffman; son-in-law, Tommy Robinson; and great-grandson, Blake Reddell.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Robinson of Western Grove; stepdaughter, Nina Perkins of Muskogee; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; very special cousins, Jennie Morgan and Marsha Nicks, both of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; along with other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
A private graveside memorial service will be held at Sand Hill Cemetery in Yardelle at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hillcrest Rehabilitation, Countryside Health and Rehabilitation, Elite Hospice, and Hospice of the Hills for their compassion and support during Grandma's final days.
