Robert Evans Obituary

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT - Robert A. "Bob" Evans, 80, of South Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at the Williamsport Home. He was the devoted husband of Deanna E. (Andy) Evans, loving father, and "Big Bob" to his grandchildren and friends.

He was born in Shamokin, Oct. 18, 1943, a son of the late Robert Elwood and Anna Mae (O'Krentovich) Evans.

Bob graduated from Coal Township High School in 1961, and was in the U.S. Army from 1962-64. He remained in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1970, while being stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, with the 1st Armored Division.

On July 17, 1976, he married the love of his life, Deanna E. Andy, of South Williamsport, and together they began raising their family.

After serving in the Army, Bob worked for various radio stations in Lewistown, York and Williamsport.

He was the organizer of the Penny-a-Vote High School All-Star teams and the Ugly Bartender Contest that raised thousands of dollars for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

In 2011, Bob retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier of more than 30 years.

He was a big fan of Notre Dame and Steelers football, the New York Yankees and visiting his two favorite beaches, Ocean City, Maryland, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Bob also enjoyed having a few cold Budweisers with his friends at the Mountaineer Lounge.

He was an avid listener of the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen. Even though his favorite Springsteen songs were "Jersey Girl" and "Hungry Heart," like "The Boss" sang "Down the shore everything's alright."

Robert is also survived by two daughters, Tami Feese (Kenneth), of Williamsport, and Staci Saunders (AJ), of South Williamsport; three sons, Derek Evans, of South Williamsport, Kyle Evans (Carinne) of Highland Lakes, New Jersey, and Kirk Evans, of Mechanicsburg; two sisters, Doris Ginck and Maryann Miller; and eight grandchildren, Cyra, Nadia, Dayne, Kenedy, Quinn, Eila, Madison and Henry.

The family will have a celebration of life from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the First Ward Fire Department, in South Williamsport.
