Valerie Jean Jones, 71, Springfield, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025 in Cox Hospital. She was born December 26, 1953 in Springfield, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howell B. and Marvin Jean (Richardson) Lewis.
She attended St. Joseph Catholic School for a short time. She also attended Berry School and Central High School before moving to Los Angeles, CA. She attended Crenshaw High School, where she graduated in June of 1976.
During her time in California, she met and married Clarence L. Jones, III. To this union, son, Clarence L. Jones was born. Val and Clarence never divorced.
Returning to Springfield, she worked for Tyson Food and French's.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael J. Lewis and Richard C. Lewis; and sister, Tona Jolene Lewis.
Valerie leaves to mourn her two sons, Clarence "Nookie" Jones and Michael J. Jones; daughter, Cierra Lechea Maclin; siblings, Donna Fay Copeland (Ed), Howell B. Lewis, III, Glynn V. Lewis (Roni), and Marcus Terrell Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Valerie had a personality of love and kindness. She loved all of her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cox South ER, Step-Down Unit, and their pastor, Orley Perlawan for their dedication and support.
Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Friday, July 11, 2025 with Funeral Service following at 11:00 AM, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens.
