James "June" Thompson Jr. was born on May 1, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late
James Thompson Sr. and Lucy Thompson. He was raised in Jefferson Parish, where he
received his early education. At a young age, James accepted Christ and was baptized at the St.
Paul Baptist Church in Marrero, Louisiana, under the leadership of Rev. Haywood Custer.
James was united in holy matrimony to the late Patricia King Thompson, his devoted wife and
lifelong companion. Their union was blessed with a beautiful family built on love, faith, and
perseverance. Together they raised their children: James Thompson III, Pastor Nigel
(Miffany) Thompson Sr., Marvin Thompson, Dwayne Thompson, Qiana Thompson, and
Mika Thompson.
He was a proud grandfather, lovingly known as "Paw Paw," to Nigel Jr., Leonard Sr.,
Doniesha, Joshua, Dakota, Kishon, Nyla, Iyanna, and Maurice Thompson, as well as
Sontranice Kimble, Breanna and Marvin Herbert, Elijah Taylor, Jasmine Sanders,
Makaya, Ambrose, Abrielle, and Amir Henry, and Ty'Ron Williams.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Ny'jah, Nyla, Leonard Jr., Lailah
Thompson, Joshua Jr., Skylah, Summer, Shai, and Sonnique Kimble; Christopher,
Christian, and Cayden Green; Kennedy Perry, Kyrie, Kyrin, and Hunter Herbert; Calli and
Eesa Sanders. Each of them carries a part of his love, laughter, and faith.
James loved his family deeply and cherished every memory shared with his children,
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. He is also survived by his siblings
Elaine Dyer, Bob Thompson Sr., Ulinda Franklin, and Ivory Scott; his sister-in-law Elaine
Thompson; his brother-in-law Leroy Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and
friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Thompson; his parents, James
Thompson Sr. and Lucy Thompson; his brother, Claude Thompson Sr.; his greatgranddaughter, Shai Milan Kimble; his sisters, Adeline Anderson and Emily Harris; and his
great uncle, Rev. Hayward Custer.
James "June" Thompson Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering faith, quiet strength, and
gentle spirit. His life was a testimony of endurance, love, and devotion - a legacy that will live
on through all who were blessed to know him.
