Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home - Denham Springs on Oct. 30, 2025.
Garney Berl "Toby" Hood, Jr. was born October 25, 1942, in Denham Springs, LA to Garney B & Violet A Hood. He was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2025.
He graduated from Denham Springs High School in 1960 and received a B. S. degree in Industrial Technology from Southeastern Louisiana College in 1964. He met Patricia Ann Stewart in 1961 when he drove the bus to Southeastern Louisiana College and they married in 1964. He began his career at Dow Chemical, Inc in Plaquemine, LA in 1964 and retired from there with 35 years of service. He held a strong Christian faith that emboldened him in many pursuits.
He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and on most of the church committees at one time or another. On Sundays he could be found at the church doors greeting everyone who entered. He wanted everyone to feel welcome. He volunteered with the church's Boy Scout Troop where he saw 2 Sons and a Grandson become Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed traveling, seeing new places, meeting new people, and was looking forward to his next road trip. He loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He was an active member with The Gideon's International. Where he looked forward to handing out bibles in the schools of Livingston Parish.
He is survived by a sister Barbara Fulton, a daughter Debra Lynn Hood, and sons Keith Hood (Delaine) and Jim Hood (Amy). He leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Katie Hood Guidry (Blake), Cade Hood (fiancée, Taylor Brooks), Ethan Hood and Meghan Hood and Great-Granddaughter Rebekah Guidry as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Pat Hood, his parents, Garney and Violet Hood, Sister Dorothy Wax, and Brothers-in-law Gay Wax and Charles Fulton.
Visitation will be held at Hebron Baptist Church at 24063 LA Hwy 16, Denham Springs, on Friday, Nov 7 from 6 – 8 PM and will resume visitation on Saturday, Nov 8 from 9 AM until services at 11 AM. To be followed by burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations of Bibles thru The Gideon's International, St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriner's Hospitals for Children.

My first memory of Mr Toby & Mrs Pat go back to when I was 13 years old - teaching their kids in Pre-School Choir at Hebron Church. Many fond memories thereafter, but I´ll forever be grateful to Mr Toby for staying overnight in the Hebron sanctuary with the body of our beloved daughter, Heidi and Baby Rhett, following their evening visitation service the night before their Celebration of Life, back in 2004. Mr. Toby was a true servant of God and he will never be forgotten.

My thoughts & prayers are with this family. As a teen I just had a good connection with Toby & Pat, visiting with them several times thru the years after I moved to AR. Such a shock seeing them at a flea market in Little Rock. Very precious family.
