Sandra Brady Akins, 74, passed away March 20th, 2025, after a battle with Alzheimer's, leaving an impossible void to fill.
Sandy was born in Sherman, TX on Dec. 5, 1951, to Malachi James Brady and Willie Maxine Meeks. She was raised by her father whom she loved dearly. She as very proud of being raised in Denison and her circle of friends remained strong her whole life, especially the graduating class of 1970.
She was married to her high school sweetheart David Michael Armstrong for 42 years. They had 2 children, David Michael Armstrong Jr. and Lisa Marie Armstrong. Her greatest heartbreak was losing their son David at 21 years of age. She trusted the Lord and suffered silently while always taking care of everyone else.
Sandy worked for Denison ISD for 39 years, retiring in January 2017. She worked at Layne, Houston, Lamar Elementary and Hughes Middle School before ending her career at the administration office. She was adored by teachers and coworkers. She enjoyed her monthly lunch dates with the Fabulous Five until her illness would no longer allow her.
In 2017 Sandy went on to marry her 2nd love, Tom Akins. He was a devoted husband and caretaker until his untimely death in June 2024. They loved traveling, enjoying new foods, and spending time with family.
Sandy took joy in baking, shopping but most of all her grandchildren, Kyler David Brady Armstrong, who she raised for 12 years, Alex Marie Hedgecock, and Xavier Katreal Tyson. She was their biggest cheerleader on Friday nights, with Kyler in the band and Alex on drill team. She attended Boy Scout activities, track meets, school functions, any aspect of life Grammy was there. She baked every birthday cake they ever had.
She is preceded in death by, her husband Tom Akins, son David Armstrong Jr., brother Richard Wayne Brady, father Malachi James Brady, and mother Maxine Richardson.
Survived by her daughter Lisa Marie Tyson and husband Terrence Tyson. Three grandchildren; Kyler Armstrong, Alex Marie Hedgecock and husband Damian, and Xavier Tyson. Great Grandchildren; Mya, Emily, Laeloni, and Ne'Vaeh Armstrong, Mya Rivers, SueRina Luke, and Tobias Hedgecock. Her beloved brother and wife Robert and Carolyn Brady, brother Joe Richardson, her niece Alison and husband Allen Brandt, her nephew Aaron and wife Casey Brady. Great nieces and nephews; Avery and Aiden Brandt, Luxe and Moxie Brady.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Guardian's hospice and Nanaw's Place for the care you provided during her illness.
Celebration of Life Service for Sandy will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Southside Baptist Church with Pastors Chuck McQueen and Keith Taylor officiating.
