Dr. Ruth Day Bunch, 81, of Ormond Beach, Florida died on Friday, the 20th day of September 2024. Ruth was born on September 17, 1943 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late John Russell and Ethel Moore Day.
Ruth completed her undergraduate work at Western Kentucky University and earned her Doctorate in education from the University of Louisville. Her distinguished career in education included serving as principal of the area technology center in both Shelby County and Oldham County, Kentucky. Her dedication to the students of Shelby County spanned seventeen years. She came out of retirement to better the lives of veterans by spending ten years at the Veterans Administration. After her second retirement, she devoted her time to her loving husband, Bernard.
Ruth was an accomplished seamstress. Her artistry can be seen on the tailored vestments she made for the Catholic Church as well as custom linens in the Baptist Church. Family and friends proudly wore wedding dresses designed and assembled by Ruth.
Ruth is survived by her devoted son, William Todd Brown, along with his wife Deborrah and her daughter, Isabella Hayse, all of Simpsonville. Ruth is also survived by her niece, Brenda Day; her great nieces, Sherri Ann Day-Daily and Lori Shannon Day Baily; and great nephew, John Patrick Day. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, Bernard Ray Bunch, along with her two brothers, Ben and Cyril Day.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the Shannon Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m.-12 Noon Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the funeral home. A private interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Kentucky.
Ruth would be pleased if expressions of sympathy were made to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
