Richard Lee Downing, 74, of Mount Sterling, died Thursday July 29, 2021, at 4 Seasons, Washington Court House. Richard was born June 5, 1947, in Pickaway County, Ohio a son of Frank and Lois (Hall) Downing.
Richard graduated from Madison South H.S. in 1965. He was a proud member of the United States Army from 1966- 1969, while serving he was stationed in Germany. Richard retired from Yellow freight after many years. He was a member of Teamster #413. Richard cherished the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and especially enjoyed fishing with his grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cheryl (Allison) Downing; daughters: Allison (Paul) Melampy of Mount Sterling, Ohio, Kim (Dale) Hedrick of Warsaw, Ohio, and Krista (Andy) Downing- Hershner of Coshocton, Ohio; Siblings: Patty Jenkins of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kitty Legg of Greenfield, Ohio, Jerry Downing of London, Ohio, Frank Downing of Texas, and Gaylord Downing of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren: Kali, Clinton, McKenzee, Kaiden, and Kiercelyn; great-grandchild: Aspen; Numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry.
According to Richard's wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lynch Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 124 E. High St., London. Online condolences may be sent to www.lynchfamilyfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses. This may be done by clicking on the donation button on Richard's obituary page.
