Norman Lee Anderson passed away on October. 9, 2025, just shy of his 98th birthday. God blessed Norm with grace and peace, kindness and gentleness throughout his life and Norm is now joyously in His presence.
Norm was born near Royal, Nebraska to Peter J. and Louise C. (Nepple) Anderson on October 24, 1927. He was the 10th of 11 children. His mother passed away one month before Norm's 5th birthday. The family lived on several farms in the area, and later moved to Neligh, Nebraska where Norm attended school. He graduated from high school in 1945. During his time in Neligh, he was welcomed into the home of the Oetter family. His years in their home turned into a lifetime of close friendships. He was very active in sports during his school years and joined the Naval Reserve in his senior year. After graduation, he was activated and was in boot camp on V-J Day. He served in active duty for a year, mainly in Memphis, Tennessee and was honorably discharged from the US Navy in July 1946.
Norm attended the University of Nebraska, graduating with a BS in Education and Physical Education in 1951. He was a member of the University's men's gymnastics team during his time at the University. In 1949, he met a fellow educator, Marilyn O'Dey, who also loved roller skating and dancing. They married in 1950 in Tilden, Nebraska. They both taught school for a time, and Norm returned to the University to earn a master's degree in mathematics in 1955.
Norm enjoyed working for the Allison Division of General Motors in Indiana for 5 years. Norm and Marilyn moved to
Brigham City, Utah in 1960 for Norm to work at Thiokol, as part of the new world of computer programming. He continued to work at Thiokol in computers and management up to his retirement in 1990.
Norm and Marilyn enjoyed traveling and visiting many areas of the world during their retirement years. Norm was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church and was also active in the Gideon Society.
At 83 years old, Norm established PET of Northern Utah, a volunteer project of building hand cranked transport carts (PETs) for disabled people in under-developed countries, to give them mobility. For 5 years, PET of Northern Utah built and shipped PETs, providing mobility for over 80 disabled people around the world.
Norm cared for Marilyn for several years during her battle with Alzheimer's, caring for her at home until she passed away in 2018. After the loss of Marilyn, Norm enjoyed the companionship of longtime friend, Cathy Olds. Their friendship brought joy to both of them late in life.
Norm was preceded in death by his 'one and only' school principal, Marilyn, 4 sisters and 5 brothers. He is survived by his sister, Delores Pallett (Arizona), his three daughters: Sherie Anderson (Mike) Monaldi of Missouri, Gail (Mike) Ravenberg of Corinne, Utah, Cindy (John) Eriksson of Pocatello, Idaho, 6 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren (all of whom he was blessed to meet in person).
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Ali's Angels and, more recently, the nurses, CNA's and physical therapy associated with Maple Springs Assisted Living and Primrose Hospice, along with Dr. John Markesan and his nurse, Melinda, for the loving care that Norm received.
A celebration of Norm's life will be held Saturday November 15, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Community Presbyterian Church, 311 South 100 East, Brigham City UT. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Services will be livestreamed on his Myer's obituary page at a later date.
