Mary Ogman Obituary

Mary Ann Ogman, affectionately known as " Honeyma" departed this life on Saturday, August 9, 2025, surrounded by the great love and affection of her dedicated children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at the age of 79. Mary Ann was born January 6, 1946, to the late Rosa Best and Alec Ogman in Pitts County, North Carolina. She would later move to Virginia, where she lived for six years. Eventually, In 1975, she relocated with her children here to New Haven, CT, where she would lay down roots and call home. Mary dedicated her life to her family, her home, and her community. While living in Virginia, she was a part of the Black Panther Party, where she fought against police brutality and advocated for social change. Here in New Haven, CT, in the Farnum Courts Housing Projects, fondly known as the "G", where she resided for 40 plus years, she served as TRC President and was very involved in political campaigning. It was in the "G" where she developed great friendships, extended families, and was a mother figure to many. She could always make a person laugh. She enjoyed entertainment. She loved her old westerns and gospel hymns, she was quite fond of a 9mm glock, but she mostly enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. She would be best known for her generosity, laughter, smile and loyalty. She leaves to cherish her memory and to carry her legacy, her daughters; Rosemary Ogman, Robin Ogman, and Alderman Angel Hubbard. Sons; Steven, Gregory, Floyd, Robert, Joseph, Marvin, and Jack Ogman, all of New Haven, CT. She also leaves a sister Bonnie Best of Virginia Beach, VA and a brother Thomas (Chubb) Best. She also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, She was preceded in death by sons; Andre, Ronald, and Don Ogman, stepsons; Benji and Joseph Alexander, a grandson Shamar Ogman, a great granddaughter Sharmaya Ogman, sisters; Malinda (Penny) Ogman Rogers, Gracie "Peggy" White, and Carrie "Jean" Dyer, brothers; Neal, Alexander, and Chester Ogman, and Authur (AJ) Best , nephew; Troy Best, and a special cousin Janie Cox Hiers.
