De La Rosa

Melba De La Rosa, age 74, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 18, 2025, after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family. Melba was born in San Diego, Texas on April 22, 1951, to her parents, Jose and Francisca De La Rosa. She was a proud graduate of San Diego High School, Class of 1969, and went on to earn a nursing degree from Bee County College.

She dedicated her life to caring for others, working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for many years at La Hacienda Nursing Home, and South Texas Home Health. She also served her community through her work at the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office.

Melba found joy in life's simple pleasures-playing Bingo, scratching off lottery tickets, watching her favorite novelas and crime shows, and, most of all, spending quality time with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Francisca De La Rosa; brother, Mario Orlando Benavides; a niece, Joanna De La Rosa.

Melba is survived by her daughter, Marcy (Tony) Perez of Alice, Texas; her brother, Jose Armando (Magdalena) De La Rosa of San Diego, Texas; her three granddaughters, Megan Perez (Daniel Perez), Cierra Perez (Tracey Gonzalez) and Jordyn Perez; niece Melva Gonzalez; nephews, Michael De La Rosa and Joe De La Rosa; her pet companion, Penny.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary and Memorial Service to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.

My condolences to Melba's family. Melba was a close friend until we went separate ways after we both got married. It was heart breaking finding out that she had passed. May she RIP
