Edwin Washburn Obituary

Edwin Eugene "Gene" Washburn at the age of 81, passed surrounded by family on March 18, 2025, at his home in Portales, New Mexico.
A family graveside service will be held at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico. Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Washburn, Claud Washburn, Michael Smith, Dustin Siliceo, & Aidan Siliceo.
Gene was born on August 9, 1943, in Santa Rita, NM, the son of Charles Ervin "Dutch" Washburn and Ressie Margaret Eaton. He was the youngest son of Dutch Washburn and middle child for Ressie Eaton.
Gene spent his early years on the family ranch near Animas in Southern NM and attended school in Hatchita and Animas, NM. He worked on ranches and feed lots early in his adult life. Gene met Dixie Raylene Pierce while working in a feedlot and they married on February 23, 1977, in Morton, Texas. Gene had 2 daughters from his first marriage and Raylene had a son. They moved to Clovis, NM where they had 3 more children together.
Gene worked road construction with many of the companies in Clovis throughout his life. He finished concrete but most enjoyed running and working on heavy equipment. He worked road construction until he retired in his 70's from Heflin Construction in Portales.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Raylene. His father Charlie "Dutch" Washburn, his mother Ressie Tomlinson, his brother Henry Washburn, sister Irene, and 3 grandchildren. He is survived by children, Melissa Siliceo (Dustin) of Clovis NM, Claud Washburn (Cessna) of Portales NM, Edwin Washburn of Portales NM, Michael Smith of Los Lunas NM, Lori Ann Johnson of TX, Sheryl Washburn of TX, and Grandchildren Amber Nichole Nusser (Isaiah) of Portales NM, Aidan Siliceo and Addison Siliceo of Clovis NM, as well as several other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services are scheduled at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, Monday, March 31st at 11am.
