Karen Sue Conley (Hughes) of Chapmanville, West Virginia, departed this life and went to her heavenly home on March 13, 2025, at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital.

Karen was born at Guyan Valley Hospital in Logan County on December 27, 1947, to her late parents, Willa Mae (Chambers) and Eugene Hughes. She attended Huntington School of Beauty Culture which kicked off her many years of being a hairstylist. After retiring, she worked as a substitute cook for Logan County Schools for a few years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, James Edward Hughes.

Those left to cherish her loving memories include her husband, Kenzie Conley; two children, Aaron (Mandy) Conley, and Alisha (John) Persinger; six grandchildren, Brittany and Brooklyn Conley, and Kyle, Paige, Ian, and Jett Persinger. She has many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and members of her church family.

Karen was widely known as “Granny,” not only to her grandchildren, but to most people she met. She was usually found in her kitchen, planting flowers, or out-and-about at a shopping mall. Aside from her usual hobbies, she was a woman who had great faith in the Lord and proud to be a member of Crawley Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Chapmanville, West Virginia. Karen had a smile that would brighten a room and offered a warm hug to everyone she met.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Crawley Creek Freewill Baptist Church on March 17th, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Crawley Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, WV.
