Judy Bryant Ackerman
July 12, 1948 – November 6, 2024
Judy Bryant Ackerman, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep at her home on November 6, 2024. She was 76 years old.
Judy was born on July 12, 1948, in Port Jefferson, New York, and grew up in Litchfield, Connecticut. She graduated from Litchfield High School. It was in Litchfield that she met Charles "Chuck" Ackerman, who would become her lifelong partner. The two were inseparable, marrying soon after and sharing a remarkable journey of love and partnership for 58 years.
Together, Judy and Chuck played a prominent leadership role in the lightning protection industry, founding several successful businesses in Winsted, Connecticut, including Ackerman Lightning Protection Company, East Coast Lightning Equipment, and Winchester Products. Their dedication helped shape the industry-a legacy that continues to this day. In addition to their home in Litchfield, they found great joy at their A-frame lake house on Bantam Lake, where they created countless memories with family and friends.
After years of success, Judy and Chuck retired to Saint Augustine, Florida, where they became active members of a close-knit community of antique car enthusiasts. Judy's warmth and generosity were felt by all who knew her.
A proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Judy took pride in her heritage. She was also a skilled needlework and knitting enthusiast, gifting many families with beautiful, hand-crafted baby blankets over the years.
Judy is survived by her devoted husband, Chuck; her daughters, Amanda Ackerman and Jennifer Morgan; her son-in-law, Mark Morgan; and her grandsons, Connor Morgan and Jack Morgan. She also leaves behind her mother, Claire Smith Bryant; her aunt, Vera Walker; her sister, Elaine Brown; her brother, Jeff Bryant, and his wife, Marj; and her sister, Faith Jones, and her husband, James. Judy will be dearly missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandnieces and grandnephews, who all adored her.
A celebration of Judy's life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Judy's memory to Semper Fi & America's Fund, a charity that provides critical support to wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans, and their families. Donations can be made at www.thefund.org.
Judy's kindness, enduring spirit, and dedication to her loved ones and community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
