Joseph Lee Aymond, 79, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at Baptist Health Hardin in
Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Joe was born on April 25, 1946, in
Port Barre, Louisiana, to the late Doris and Thelma Aymond. He was also preceded in death by three brothers.
Joe leaves behind a family who will forever cherish him: his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Vickie Aymond; two daughters, Shanon Buffington of Coppell, Texas, and Amanda Williams (Patrick) of Atlanta, Georgia; one son, Chris Aymond (Stacey) of
Vine Grove, Kentucky; six grandchildren whom he adored, Hunter Lee Aymond, Jack Buffington, Damien Reed, Emma Buckley, James Buffington, and Ivan Aymond. He is also survived by three brothers; two sisters; his in-laws, whom he loved as his own; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, a role he carried with dignity throughout his life. A talented woodworker who loved working with his tools and a dedicated gardener, he took great pride in everything he created. His yard was a reflection of his care and attention-always beautifully kept and always welcoming. He also enjoyed spending early mornings outdoors hunting deer, turkey, squirrels, and anything else he could throw into a gumbo. He was proud of his gun collection and cherished both the tradition of hunting and the peace of being in nature.
Joe was a man of deep roots, strong faith, and a vibrant spirit. Known to his Louisiana family as "Eppie," he remained deeply connected to his heritage all his life. He was proud of his Cajun heritage and culture-from lively zydeco music and two-step dancing to the simple joys of crawfish boils and fish fries shared with loved ones. He had a particular fondness for authentic Cajun food, strong coffee, and something sweet to go with it. He loved being a host, especially at Halloween, bringing people together and making sure everyone was well fed and having a good time. An avid LSU fan, he rarely missed a game and brought his signature enthusiasm and unwavering loyalty to every season-Geaux Tigers!
Although small in stature, he was larger than life, with a personality that filled a room and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His presence was unforgettable, his laughter memorable, and his love of life contagious. His grandchildren were one of the greatest joys of his life and a constant source of pride and happiness. He delighted in playing pranks on them and making them laugh. He was known for his sense of humor, generosity, and always being dressed to impress.
He carried a quiet but strong belief in God and found comfort in the promise of heaven, which gave him peace throughout his life. He will be remembered for embracing life fully, for his caring heart, and for his great love for family and friends.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Radcliff Veterans Center, 100 Veterans Drive, Radcliff, KY 40160. Checks may be made payable to the RVC Advisory Committee, with "Joe Aymond" noted in the memo line.
His spirit will live on in every shared meal, every burst of laughter, and every gathering filled with love.
