Jean S Jones, nee Martha Jean Southard, lived to be 100 years old, and peacefully passed away on January 10, 2025 at her Coyote Creek Farm home surrounded by loving family.
Jean was born November 20, 1924 in Paris Illinois to Chancy and Lena Southard. She had one sister, Betty Southard Klutts. Growing up in Paris, she played the piano, softball, field hockey, and archery.
She married Leeland F. Jones on October 19, 1946 and they were happily married for 56 years.
A loving wife and mother, a devoted daughter and sister, a beloved aunt and grandmother she was the matriarch of an adoring family. She was a kind and loving friend to many.
Jean was a lifelong learner. She was a prolific reader of several novels a week which she downloaded from the library to her iPad, she loved texting with family and friends and always added several fun emojis. She loved geography and would amaze her friends with her knowledge of the world.
Jean loved traveling and kept journals of the places she visited. She and Lee retired early to travel the country in their Silver Streak travel trailer which they did for 15 years, visiting every State in the lower 48 before permanently settling in Bonita Springs FL. Here she had fun practicing aerobics, clog dancing, riding her bicycle and spending time with many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leeland Jones and son Gary Jones (Liz). She is survived by her daughter Connie Dillman (Peter), grandchildren Deborah Jones, Douglas Jones (Kim), Deanna Jones, Ryan Dillman (Carrie) James Dillman (Samantha), Amy Wright and Michelle Minton, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and nephews.
A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on January 18, 2025 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 963 N Girls School Road, Indianapolis, IN 46214. Calling at 1:00p followed by the service at 1:30p.
