James Stuefen, 81, of Elkton, SD passed away October 27, 2025 at the Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau, SD.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 1, 2025 at United Parish Church, Elkton, SD, with visitation one hour prior also at United Parish.

James "Jimmy" Irvin Stuefen was born on April 9, 1944 to Irvin and Evelyn (Myers) Stuefen, while his dad was away serving overseas during WWII.

James was a life-long resident of Elkton, graduating from Elkton High School in 1962. He attended Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo, ND for mechanics, graduating in 1964. He paid for his education by growing potatoes on the west edge of Elkton and also where the current football field is located.

He worked for the Ford car dealership in Brookings and later was employed as a mechanic at Roy Kramer Implement in Elkton until he purchased the school buses from Merle Pottratz. He also farmed many years with his dad and brother.

In 1996, he opened Skyview Junction Convenience Store and later Jimmy's Place restaurant. He spent many long hours building up the business. He enjoyed visiting with the customers, who became like family to him.

James was a member of the United Parish Church and served on the Elkton City Council. He enjoyed collecting old tractors and other farm related antiques.

He entered Riverview Healthcare in November 2022, where he was a resident until his passing. His family deeply appreciates the kindness and care he received from the staff at Riverview Healthcare Center.

James is survived by his brother, Cory (Mary Ann) of Elkton, nieces and nephews, Ashley (Joe) Arthur, Jon (Kayla) Stuefen, Elizabeth Stuefen, and Tyler (Shyanne) Stuefen, seven great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Evelyn Stuefen; grandparents: August and Lydia Stuefen, Elmer and Emma Myers; and a great-nephew.
