Ernest Carl Augustine, Jr., affectionately known to many as "Pops," passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, at Randolph Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on September 10, 1939, in Youngstown, Ohio, he lived a full and vibrant life of 85 years. Ernest was a dedicated and hardworking man, having devoted 39 years to the Youngstown Vindicator newspaper. He began his career passionate about the news and the community it served and worked his way up to become the district manager before retiring. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his love for the great outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, Ernest could often be found sharing stories and laughter by the water or in the woods, embracing the tranquility and beauty of nature. His hobbies reflected his appreciation for life's simple pleasures and his enduring spirit of adventure. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Ernest served during the Korean Conflict, exemplifying valor and dedication to his country. His service instilled in him a deep sense of duty and honor that he carried throughout his life. Ernest was preceded in death by his beloved Wife Janet in 2017 and his parents, Ernest Sr. and Priscilla Shuttleworth Augustine. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his surviving family: his son, Thomas Augustine, and fiancée Brenda Cranford of Ramseur; his daughters, Terry of Tennessee and Sherry of Ohio; and his granddaughter, Emily. The family will hold a celebration of Ernests' life at a later date, where loved ones will gather to remember his warmth, kindness, and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him.
