IRVING SCHWARTZ Obituary

SCHWARTZ, Irving Arthur Age 98, of Randolph, passed away on June 1. He was husband to the late Rosalind Larson Schwartz; beloved father of Stephen Schwartz and his wife, Alison Jameson of Dublin and Lisa Gazzaniga of Edgartown; and the adored "Poppa" of Emily Gazzaniga and Arthur Schwartz. In recent years, he was lovingly cared for by his dear friends, Tammy Fay and Jimmy Fraser. A graduate of Boston University, he taught high school in Newton and Brookline and at Clark University. He and his wife, Linda, ran the Brookline Adult Ed. program, where he was also a teacher of a variety of subjects, including Chinese Cooking and Autobiographical Writing. Irving's true passion was jazz. As an accomplished musician, he was playing at the Totem Pole Ballroom in Newton at the age of 17. He later played lead alto sax in the Ted Herbert Orchestra and the Bob Bachelder Band and also served as a Trustee at Berklee College of Music. A Renaissance man with wide-ranging interests, he will be fondly remembered for his relaxed charm, dapper and dignified style, keen wit, empathy, and care. A Celebration of Irving's Life will be held on June 28, at 2:00, at Oakes Ames Memorial Hall, in North Easton.
