Eddie Joe Abercrombie was born March 2, 1956, to Bertice and Cedell Benford Abercrombie in Temple, Texas. He graduated from Temple High School and from Temple College with an associate's degree. He joined the US Army in 1978 serving honorably for over 23 years. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupational Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge Rifle.
Eddie worked as a computer technician in the IT department at Dell in Austin, Texas and Texas Instruments in Fort Worth Texas. He also worked until retirement in 2019, at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Temple, Texas, where he held many positions, the last being an advanced medical support assistant. He met Martha Hinojosa and they were married on January 4, 2020. Eddie loved old school cars, computers, music, reading, hanging out with friends and family, barbequing and teaching the little ones. He will also be remembered for his love for sports and his favorite teams; the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Dallas Cowboys, and the San Antonio Spurs.
He departed this life on January 17 2025, while on a special trip with his wife in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is preceded in death by: his parents, son Brandon Abercrombie, sisters Rita Riddick, Elaine Taplin, Patricia Marshal, Esther Hayes Smith, and Marie Freeman.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Martha Abercrombie of Harker Heights, Texas; one son, Rodrick Abercrombie of Temple, Texas; daughter, Bryanna Hinojosa of Harker Heights, Texas; brothers, Bertice Abercrombie, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sid Taplin (Rose) of Houston, Texas, David Freeman (Linda) of Fort Worth, Texas, Willie Freeman and Mathis Freeman both of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters, Emma Abercrombie Payne of Round Rock, Texas, Eleanor Abercrombie Haynes of Temple, Texas, Ruby Taplin of Brenham, Texas, Willie Mae August, Linda Taplin, and Brenda Johnson all of Houston, Texas, Marian Wilson of Belton, Texas, Zakiya Kangethe of Washington, Norris Soders and Bertha Freeman of Fort Worth, Texas, seven grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
