Cornelius “Neal” Matthews was born March 20, 1936, to Albert “Red” Matthews and Vitula Gee in Boonville, Indiana.
He attended Boonville Elementary and High School before graduating from the then Evansville College with a degree in Elementary Education. After completing student teaching, he moved to Louisville, Kentucky to begin his teaching career.
In his early years, Neal enjoyed playing the piano and dancing. Neal never had children of his own but always had a house full of dogs which he loved dearly and house plants.
Neal was preceded in death by his father, Albert Matthews; mother and stepfather, Vitula and Sam Mallory; sister, Gwendolyn Garth; brothers, Joseph and Donald Matthews; and his beloved great aunt Musetta Green.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Debra Chipps; brother, Kerry Mallory (Laurie); a cherished friend, James Newman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to James Newman and family for always being there when needed.
