Constance Marie (nee: Hegwood) Louis was born on June 9, 1955, in Cleveland, Ohio to James D. Hegwood and the late Elaine E. Hegwood. She was the eldest of six girls born to this union. Being the oldest, "Connie" was not only a big sister, but she was like another mother to the younger siblings. Connie was primarily educated in the East Cleveland School District, attending Kirk Middle School and Shaw High School. She was an honor student and participated in the Junior Achievement (J.A.) Program. "Connie" graduated from Shaw High School in 1973 and was a proud Cardinal. As a child and young teenager, Connie loved to read, listen to music, and learned to cook. She learned to clean, cook, knit, crochet and sew from our mother and grandmothers. She was very particular about cleaning and was extremely neat. She always knew if any of her siblings touched anything in her room. While in school, she worked at Mr. Donuts in East Cleveland and the Euclid Green Bowling Alley. As an adult, Connie loved to have guests over for holidays and mastered making desserts like "pound cake." After high school, she attended Case Western Reserve University studying Nursing. After transferring, she earned an Associate of Science Degree from Cuyahoga Community College in 1978. She enrolled in Huron Road Hospital's School of Nursing and graduated in 1981. After passing the NCLEX (state board), Connie became a Registered Nurse and worked at Huron Road Hospital, eventually became a Head Nurse. After being Assistant Director of Nursing at Cleveland Clinic, Connie gained experience in skilled/long-term care and became the Director of Nursing (D.O.N.) at City View, HCR ManorCare, Crawford Manor, Eliza Bryant, Beachwood, Broadway Care and a few other facilities in Northeast Ohio. She earned the reputation of being the D.O.N. who cleaned up facilities in preparation for annual state surveys. As a young nurse, Connie had the pleasure of working alongside Carmen (sister #4) at Huron Road Hospital and Kaiser Permanente Hospital. As a DON, she worked alongside her husband Henry, Camille (sister #6) and her oldest daughter Tamika at Beachwood Nursing Home. She also worked at Eliza Bryant and City View with Camille, Tamika and her niece Teresa. (After Connie and Carmen became nurses, three additional sisters (Christine, Camille and Jameka), her husband Henry, her daughter Tamika, and 2 nieces (Teresa and Jasmine) all became nurses.) After her health started to decline, she retired in 2016 from Crawford Manor. Connie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in 1968 at Second Mount Olive Baptist Church (SMOBC) under the late Reverand George H. Caslin.
She later enjoyed the teachings of Bishop Gonelcha Askew who she adored. Constance met the love of her life, Henry Lee Louis. They married at Second Mount Olive Baptist Church on June 20, 1981. To this union, three children were born: Tamika Monelle Louis, Henry Lee Louis, Jr. and Jalisa Danielle Louis (Chapman). She supported her husband's decision to go to school and Henry also became a nurse. As a family, they enjoyed going out to eat, traveling to Canada and New Jersey, cooking and backyard BBQs. When her kids were smaller, she was also known as the "Queen of Layaways" at Christmas. During a recent hospitalization, Connie transitioned on March 1, 2025, to be with her recently departed mother, her husband and most importantly, The Lord Jesus Christ.
Proceeding her in death is husband Henry Lee Louis; mother Elaine Hegwood; father-in-law William Louis; mother-in-law Rose Stevenson; brothers-in-law William Louis, Robert Louis, Roger Louis; grandparents Lawyer Miller and Edna Woodruff, James Hegwood and Mary Gordon; granddaughter Violet; nephews Gerald (Jay) Warner, Jr. and Landon Coleman; great-nephew Aubrey Shorter, Jr., and aunts, uncles and cousins.
