Clara “Peggy” R. Abbott, 86, of Galesburg, IL, passed away on July 5, 2025 at Marigold Rehab & Health Care, Galesburg, IL.
She was born on January 11, 1939 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Orrin P. and Hannah M. (Doyle) Abbott. Peggy was raised and educated in Monmouth.
Peggy married Richard B. Stokes on October 1, 1955 in Monmouth, IL; he preceded her in death on February 26, 1984.
Peggy worked at the local nursing home in the housekeeping department for many years. She also was a housekeeper at Meling’s in Monmouth and the Holiday Inn in Galesburg. Peggy enjoyed camping and playing games on her iPad.
Surviving Peggy is her son, Howard Stokes of Burlington, IA; her grandchildren, Johnnie (Carl) Thomson of Mediapolis, IA, Heidi (Chris) Buster of Ft. Madison, IA; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Connie Emery of Galesburg, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and seven sisters.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, IL. Memorials can be made to the Clara Abbott Memorial Fund and can be sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
